World's Best Time Wasters--We Need You

Okay, so this is my second post IN ONE DAY on my brand new one-author blog that I put together while on a web conference about digital media promotion from my publisher, Harlequin.

I've got a facebook page, but that's not author-based so much.

I blog occasionally on http://deadlinehellions.blogspot.com/ and I have a Web site, http://www.dawnatkins.com/, but other than that I'm not that social-media conscious.

What makes me think I can keep this up? Especially because I can't be too bitchy or controversial here--that's like showing up at the hospital in bad underwear, or inviting company when the house is a mess. I'm gonna give it a try, though, especially because right now I NEED it.

Anything to avoid my current book. Or maybe I'll go scrub grout in the shower. That, too, sounds more appealing than this plot snarl I'm stuck in.

Which brings me to the point...what's your favorite way to waste time when you should be doing something else? I'm looking for things to add to my list, heh, heh.
All my best,
Dawn Atkins

  1. Ooh, favorite way to waste time -- reading old emails! I have way too many of 'em saved, but it's handy that they're on the computer where I -should- be working...so it feels like I'm in my workspace, just not actually DOING anything.

    Ulp.

  2. D - you are far more "conscious" than I. I have a facebook page without a photo (a no-no). My favorite way to waste time is to drive around. I go to antique shops to browse, TJ Maxx to look at Born shoes on sale, Nordstrom Rack, Hallmark stores to browse the cards, Rite-Aid drugstores going out of business, even dollar stores if I'm really bored. I can waste an entire Saturday.

  3. My favorite -- go into the kitchen and get a snack. No wonder I have 10 lbs more than I want!

  4. Laurie and Jeanne: These are fabulous time-wasting ideas. I'm writing them down. Jeanne you made long for SHOPPING, which is so not me....
Good to hear from you. I hope you have SOME time to waste these days...
Laurie: I hoard emails for rainy days, too. I just rarely read them....something else to feel guilty about, eh?
    Best,

  5. HI Dawn,
Great looking blog. I love the colors. My biggest time waster is Spider Solitaire! It's so addicting you'll never get the book finished.

  6. Hi Dawn! I am a serious e-mail addict, but I don't consider that wasting time, because it's all part of maintaining friendships (koff koff, anyone buying that?). Like Kim, Spider Solitaire is my favorite sin. I do the difficult one and keep trying to up my win percentage. It's truly pathetic.

  7. Andrea: Oh, yeah, the snacking thing. Luckily all I have are celery and diet soda.

Kim and Isabel: I never got the solitaire habit. I'm fond of Majong Eternity and Zuma...sigh

Martha: Good to hear from you! Thanks for grabbing my books. Yes, Alex will graduate in May. Your daughter's close to graduating, right?
    All my best,
    Dawn

  8. Ok, so yeah, I'm guilty of this now and again, but how about wasting time reading celebrity magazines? A friend of mine told me Angelina Jolie made this great comment. Something to the effect of, "If people would spend as much time reading about things that could improve the world instead of reading about me, think what we could accomplish!" Dang straight, she is!

  9. Love that picture! Too cute and so true! :-))

I waste time playing Free Cell on my computer or check my e-mail. I too will go back and read old e-mails. I have also been known to do laundry. My most favorite way is to spend a few blissful hours playing my harp.
